  • storage

Overview of research basics

  • lab notebook
  • resources
  • why am I doing this experiment?

Making stock solutions

  • pipetting
  • weighing
  • graduated cylinders
  • volumetric flasks
  • % solutions (vol/vol, g/vol)
  • molar vs. normal solutions
  • buffers

HOMEWORK!!! (this will make my workshop shorter)

  • 1. You need to make 3% [http://www.sigmaaldrich.com/catalog/search/ProductDetail/SIGMA/A2153 BSA] in 10mM [http://www.vwrsp.com/catalog/product/index.cgi?catalog_number=VW0125-3&inE=1&highlight=VW0125-3 Acedic Acid]. Do all the necessary calculations. (If you don't know where to start, don't be discouraged - we'll show you on Monday June 5th).
  • 2. You need to make 2 liters of the following solution (all are liquids except for the salt): 10% glycerol, 0.9% NaCl, 0.01% Tween 20, 0.01% Tween 80. Show calculations.

Led by: Ana (10am-12pm)
Lab safety training with engineering group from 1pm - 5pm Please email Karen to join group. All students must have completed lab safety training to work in the lab.
