* You can't "mess up" a wiki. There's a complete history of every edit you make. That's what makes wikipedia work; if you couldn't revert vandalism, there wouldn't be much incentive to keep re-writing pages. Also, I would like to remind you that "[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:NOT#Wikipedia_is_not_a_free_host.2C_blog.2C_webspace_provider_or_social_networking_site Wikipedia is not a free host, blog, webspace provider or social networking site]" and that page could get deleted by an admin and you'd lose all your work.

Anyway, I've been thinking your design would be good for the front page and the main subpages (ie the Bulletin Board page, Important Announcements page, etc), but on lower subpages, we could just use a sidebar like the one I made [[UT2006:Navigation Template|here]] (layout subject to change, perhaps).

Hey guys,

I am only a beginner in website design. This template is purely the result of my lack of imagination - I had no idea what else to make, so I chose iGEM as the theme for my first ever website (well, kind of). Here is the link:

Take a look! Open for any discussion and suggestions. :)

Well, three things for now...

  1. Wiki software makes it much easier to do these tables and formatting things than using HTML+CSS (although there are certain things that can't be done of course) Take for example this list. It's autonumbering and it's easy to remember # (aka number sign) for a numbered list.
  2. I'm sure you could have come up with a better name for this page :D
  3. Why, exactly, did you write it on Wikipedia? That's a general encyclopedia and it seems to be the only thing you've written there. Why didn't you put it on the iGEM wiki?

Other than that, it'd look pretty good for a front page.

Thanks for your comments WingZero.

  • I did realize that the codes are quite messy for other people to edit. But since I just started learning html, I thought I might as well write in html codes (This was only meant to be a practice for myself initially~ :] I'll try to clear up the code a bit later if people like my design.).
  • The name "Blue Water" is what the team used last year. Blue is the color for U of T and water represents U of Waterloo, I guess. I'm sure we can come up with a better name. :)
  • I put it on Wikipedia because I'm not very familiar with the wiki software. I was worried that I may mess up any page of our iGEM wiki. Of course, I won't leave it in "my talk" forever~
