I am a bored Research Associate in Ron Weiss' lab. I was asked to be in charge of the iGEM2006 team and am not excited about our plans and possible projects. I am a classically trained with 26 degrees ranging in in Chemistry (undergrad); Cellular, Molecular and Biophysical studies (Masters); and Neuroscience (PhD). I was drawn to Synthetic Biology from the first paper I read and see a huge future in this field hopefully with my own unique contributions. But not with my iGEM group. Let them wander around the dark halls of LTL not knowing where to meet...LTL is scary at night, let them be frightened. Just thinking about that helps relieve my boredom.

I have three beautiful children and a wonderful husband who is a cell biologist and patent agent. My hobbies include computer programming, movies and music. The truth is, I have far too many hobbies to list here! I play violin as more than a hobby, but less than a profession. I love exotic animals and my alter ego would be a zoo veterinarian. I enjoy the athletics I can still do such as rollerblading and weight training. My tastes in music are eclectic and all-encompassing, ranging from electronica ambient to classical to heavy metal to pop/rap. My tastes in movies are similarly eclectic and all-encompassing ranging from oldie B/W films to campy B movies to foreign films to popular culture. I like to think that instead of preferring one type of something, I enjoy variety. I occasionally relax by woodworking and I also enjoy sewing, although these are hobbies that are currently 'in the freezer'. Photography is another passion of mine and I have several published photos including author photos for published books. Although digital photography is great and has pretty much replaced darkroom photography, it's still fun to play around with negatives in a well-stocked darkroom. Bookstores and electronics/computer stores are weaknesses of mine. My family owns an undetermined number of books, VCR-taped movies, DVDs, music CDs and even vinyl. What to do with all that media.....

Although I have a million and one interests, my passion has always been Science. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be an 'inventor' of some sort, took a side road as a Vet technician in High School, but then realized in college that my true dream was to become an academic scientist.
